Discovering Energy Consumption Patterns with Unsupervised Machine Learning for Canadian In Situ Oil Sands Operations

چکیده

Canada’s in situ oil sands can help meet the global demand. Because of energy-intensive extraction processes, operations also play a critical role meeting carbon budget. The steam ratio (SOR) is an indicator used to measure energy efficiency and assess greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions industry. A low SOR indicates process that more efficient less intensive. In this study, we applied machine learning methods for data-driven discovery public database?, Petrinex?, containing operating data from 2015 2019 extracted over 35 million records 20 operations. Two unsupervised methods, including clustering association rules, showed cyclic stimulation (CSS) recovery method was than steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) method. Chi-square tests statistically significant between CSS high (p <0.005). rules suggested occurrence non-condensable (NCG) co-injection produced SOR. on two identified relationship < 0.005). Association indicated there no production regions SORs. For future development, decision-makers should consider SAGD as preferred because it Existing projects development explore possibility NCG with reduce consumption consequently GHG processes.

Nuclear Technology & Canadian Oil Sands Integration of Nuclear Power with In-Situ Oil Extraction

This report analyzes the technical aspects and the economics of utilizing nuclear reactor to provide the energy needed for a Canadian oil sands extraction facility using SteamAssisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology. The energy from the nuclear reactor would replace the need for energy supplied by natural gas, which is currently burned at these facilities. There are a number of concerns surr...

Canadian Oil Sands: Development and Future Outlook

The worldwide global demand for oil has grown by 150% since 1965 and 20% in the past 20 years to the current 80 million barrels per day, and is projected to grow by 50% more in the next 20 years [1]. The growth in global demand for oil comes at a time when the supply from relatively cheap conventional sources is declining, and reserves are not being replaced with new discoveries [2]. However, t...

Toward Sustainable Production in the Canadian Oil Sands Industry

A dynamic systems modeling approach is being developed for assessing the sustainability of an industrial sector. Assessing systems sustainability is a complex undertaking and entails the synthesis of large quantities of information from different sources. In this approach, those environmental performance measures relevant to the industrial sector in question are first identified. Then a systems...
